Arenal Tours Discount FAQ
Which tours do you recommend to do?
The Arenal and La Fortuna area is best for hiking, outdoor adventure and wildlife. For specific recommendations, you can read our favorite things to do in Arenal post.
A few of our favorite activities are the cooking class, the night walk, the river safari floats and the Arenal Volcano hike.
I’m traveling alone. Can I still get the discount?
If there is already a tour running, you can join as a solo traveler. Most tours have a minimum of either 2-4 people so we will check availability and let you know. If it isn’t available, we can keep checking or give you other options. Otherwise, you will have to pay for the minimum amount of spaces in order for the tour operator to open the tour.
For example, if a tour requires at least 2 adults to run and there isn’t anyone else booked, you will have to pay for 2 spaces to run the tour as a solo traveler.
It says tours include transportation. I have my own car, can I drive and meet the group?
If you have a car, you will drive to the tour operator’s office in La Fortuna to meet the shuttle for pick up. There is no discounted rate for it.
The tour operator provides transportation from hotels in downtown La Fortuna to Tabacon. If your hotel is outside the free pick up zone and has an extra fee, we will let you know. These are hotels like Arenal Observatory Lodge, Chachagua Rainforest Lodge and Lost Iguana. We will send you the location of the tour operator’s location and parking lot when your reservation is confirmed so you know where to go to meet the group.
I’m staying at an Airbnb/vacation rental. Can I still get picked up?
No, transportation is not provided from Airbnbs and vacation rentals. You will need to go to the closest hotel for pick up and drop off or if you have a car, you can meet the group at the downtown office.
Can I pay in cash or credit card?
The invoice we send you can be paid via credit/debit card or Paypal.
Renee says
What is the canyoning excursion called? I don’t see anything with the word canyoning listed in the dropdown
Sammi says
Hi Renee, we have a separate booking form for the canyoning tour, you can find it here and fill it out to request to book with our discount: Canyoning in La Fortuna
CHARLES G MING says
I booked a Pure Nature Safari Float with Jacamar Tours thru you. This tour made our entire vacation awesome! We saw nearly every species of animals Costa Rica is known for to include each of the monkey types, iguanas, gators, lizards, sloths, birds galore, and the list goes on and on. Your recommendation for the tour was spot on, and I appreciate all the help provided with scheduling the tour’s day/time! Our guides were AWESOME and worked hard to show/tell us about all the animals that were possible to see on the river. As a recommendation from the guides… book your tours for the afternoons for a better experience. We got back to La Fortuna late, so I recommend bringing snacks for the kids. Again, THANK YOU!
Sammi says
Hi Charles, thank you for the comment and feedback 🙂 We greatly appreciate it and we’re glad to hear you had a good time on the tour!
Jeff park says
Hi there. We are in tamarindo and we passed a truck that had your sign on it and I was wondering if you have an office here that we can talk and book something?
Sammi says
Hello!! You can send us an email via our Contact Mytanfeet form and our team will get back to you!
Ray Arthur says
Hello – we’ve read about your tour that includes the Arenal Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna waterfall, Arenal 1968 Hike, and The Baldi Hot Springs. Do you still offer that? If so, what is the name of the selection? Also, we have 3 children coming with us, ages 5, 11, and 13. Are those ages okay for that tour, or would that be too much for the 5 yo? If so, is there another recommendation you’d have for our family of 5? Thanks!
Sammi says
Hello Ray, we’ve sent you an email with more information but it’s called “Combination tour” in the drop down list. Our partners unfortunately do not offer it anymore with Baldi but there are three other options and your children are perfectly able to do the tour.
Leah M says
I would be interested in learning more about that recommendation, too. Traveling with children ages 15, 13 & 11.
Sammi says
You can find the “Combination tours” in the drop down list, the hot springs options are now Ecotermales, The Springs and Paradise.
Kerry Cowley says
We’ll have eight full days in Costa Rica, arriving late evening at SJO on February 5. There are four of us, including my 4 1/2 year-old granddaughter. I haven’t been able to find any zip line tours that offer tandem zip lining for that age. Do you know of any that would do so so we don’t have to split up with some of us doing zip lining, and others doing hanging bridges? With our limited time, what would be the best way to split up sites in the Arenal volcano area, Monte Verde, and Manuel Antonio? we wouldn’t want to spend more than a few hours at the actual beach. Will one location offer a lot better zip lining experience?
Sammi says
Hi Kerry, we sent you an email regarding one of our partners that allows children with a minimum age of 4 that is about a 1.5 hr drive from San Jose, the park is Vista Los Sueños Adventure Park. You can also check our Costa Rica 11 Days Itinerary that goes exactly to La Fortuna, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio and then tweak it to your liking.
Aliza Hunnicutt says
We are traveling with a toddler, he will be just under 2 when we are in La Fortuna. We would love to do a chocolate/coffee tour, is he allowed to come with us? I don’t see a minimum age listed but know there are lots of things we are limited from with his age. If he is welcome, is it the same children’s price listed?
Sammi says
Hello Aliza! There is no minimum age for the chocolate/coffee tour so he can join you.
Ak Sax says
Hello, what would you recommend for our family, we have a 6 year old and 3.5 year old?
Sammi says
Unfortunately with a 3.5 year old, you will be limited to the adventure activities since most tours require a minimum age of 5 or 8. With our partner, they have Proyecto Asis, Arenal Lake by BOat and Peninsula Trail, Coffee tour, coffee & Chocolate, chocolate tour, coffee + chocolate + sugar cane, Pura vida cooking class, sunset view on boat at arenal lake and the real cano negro tour – wildlife refuge available for 3 year olds.
Justin Wacker says
Hello,
Thank you for the great blog. This page has been really helpful in planning our time in La Fortuna/Arenal. Do you have a similar tour discount page for Monteverde or Manuel Antonio?
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Justin, we do offer discounts for Manuel Antonio you can check here: https://mytanfeet.com/special-deals/quepos-and-manuel-antonio-tours-discount/
Unfortunately we don’t have any discounts for Monteverde but we do book tours! https://mytanfeet.com/special-deals/monteverde-tours-booking/
stephanie Prescott says
Hello
Do you have a tour to pick up in playa Conchal for a day at Arenal combo tour ?
Sammi says
Hello, we do but it doesn’t include all 4 activities like this one because of time constraints (4 hours per way driving from Conchal to Arenal). From Guanacaste, you’ll go to one place, either the volcano hike or hanging bridges and then hot springs. We have a small discount for this tour which you can check here: Guanacaste tours discount however it does require a minimum of 4 people and these are shared services. IN case you want a private, please write a note in the comment section
Michael says
Hola, I am interested in trying to squeeze a volcano hike, hanging bridges, canyoning and maybe even a safari boat ride all in one day. Is there any combos for all this? Maybe a sunset safari boat ride?
Sammi says
Hi Michael, it is not possible to do all five activities in one day. WE have Volcano hike + hanging bridges in one day or you can do canyoning + penas Blancas safari float in one day so you need at least two days.
Sara says
My daughter and I are in La Fortuna on Sept 8-11. And she wants to go canyoning and I will just be a spectator. Is there a different fee for the spectator?
Sammi says
Hi Sara, we’ve answered you via email. You can go as a spectator, we let you know how much the spectator price will be
Tammie Vlach says
Can you tell me if any of these excursions have the waterfall repelling?
Sammi says
Yes it’s the canyoning one
Kathy GV says
Hi, Love your site and all the info you pass along! (Booked our car through you!) I saw someone else asked about the Cooking and Farm Tour, and if it also includes any Coffee or Chocolate making? We are interested in the cooking and would love info on coffee/chocolate too.
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Kathy, the cooking and farm tour are completely separate from coffee/chocolate tour, on farm/cooking tour, they will briefly show you the cacao tree and coffee tree but won’t get any further than that, you’ll have to book the coffee&Chocolate tour to do a dedicated tour to those
lynda tran says
Hello, I’m interested in the Rio Frio Safari Float and read that I need to book a private boat tour because we have a 2 year old. I don’t see an email address where I can do that. Can you please help? We’re not visiting until September.
Your blog is so detailed. It was so helpful, many thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Lynda, we sent you an email with info 🙂 Please note that the minimum age of the tour is 4. For 2 years old, they cannot run the tour as they do not have lifejackets for a 2 year old so even as a private service, with a 2 year old it is not possible. You can do the Cano Negro by boat though as that is on a motorized river boat with a roof, and they do not have a minimum age limit for that tour.
Dana says
Thank you so much for such an informative and detailed site! Incredibly helpful as we plan our trip for April. I had a similar question to Lynda’s as we have a 4 and a 6 year old and were interested in the safari float tours. Would you be able to send that info, if it is still an option to book a private tour? Thanks in advance, either way!
Sammi says
Hi Dana, with a 4 year old, you are able to book the Pure Nature Safari Float as the minimum for that tour is 4. The Penas Blancas minimum is 5 and they can’t run it even as a private service if they’re not at least 5 years of age but they can with Pure Nature as a regular shared tour.
Kendra says
hi there, we will be in Costa Rica the first week of April and in Arenal and then Bijagua area. Our couple of days in La Fortuna area are already full but we would love to do the Pure Nature tour. Is it possible to meet up with them in Cana Negro area because we will have our own car and could drive there from our lodging in Bijagua. thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Kendra, we have sent you an email with more information
Bonnie says
Hola! – family of three going to CR end of March. Do you not offer the Combination tour anymore with the Baldi hotpsrings? If not, which hotspring would you recommend for two adults and a 12 year old? Also, would the tour company pick up from Princesa de le Luna Ecolodge? Gracias!
Sammi says
Unfortunately no 🙁 We have Ecotermales, Paradise and Tabacon (but Tabacon will end later this year). You can check the rates and description in the drop down of the tour choices
Kristina says
Hello, do you offer a larger discount for multiple tours booked?
thank you
Sammi says
Hi Kristina, not normally as we already offer discounts for tours unless you have a big group and it’s 3+ tours booked.
Michelle says
We are traveling with 3 kids – the youngest is 3 and we are hoping she can be on our back in a carrier for this experience – is this allowed?
Sammi says
Hi Michelle, which experience are you referring to?
Anne-Marie Parenteau says
Hi, I would like to organise a 2 hours walk with a naturalist french speaking guide for a group of 20 people in March.
Can you contact me please?
Sammi says
Hi Anne-Marie, unfortunately we don’t work with any French speaking guides but I think there is a French tour company in Costa Rica called Tout you can check with
David says
Hi There, for the combination tour: “Combination Tour with The Springs Hot Springs” price listed with the 7% discount included ($312.12)? Or do you also take 7% off that amount ($290.27)?
Sammi says
Hi David, the prices listed are original and then the discount applies to the original rate
Niles says
Hi
If we had to pick between “Hanging Bridges – waterfall-volcano hike” vs “safari float-waterfall-volcano hike”, what would you suggest? Kids 9 and 13.
Between the hanging bridges in arenal and the ones in Monteverde, if we had to pick one, which would you suggest?
Sammi says
It depends what you guys want to do, hanging bridges involves hiking, safari float is no hiking, you’ll probably see more animals on the safari float than the hanging bridges but hanging bridges lets you get higher up in the rainforest.
Both Arenal and MOnteverde hanging bridges are good but Monteverde has higher ones in elevation if you want to experience more of the cloud forest.
Deborah says
Why is the minimal age 2 yrs old?
Sammi says
Which tour?
Christi says
We are interested in the Cooking and Farm Tour…Does this also include any Coffee or Chocolate making?
Sammi says
Hi Christi, we sent you an email to answer your question
Nikki says
Hey Sammi!
My family and I will be visiting Costa Rica in July for 3 days. Have you done the hot air balloons in Meulle? Can a 58yo who’s afraid of heights do the Volcano hike (is it steep/without handrails etc)? We aren’t really into water sports so will 2 half days/overnight be enough?
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi, we haven’t done any hot air balloon ride in Costa Rica
Amanda says
Hi there,
Can you tell me why this combined Waterfall and Mistico tour is not available for children under the age of 5 when both places allow young children? Is it because they are free and therefore the tour company doesn’t want to allow them? We are travelling with our 3yr old son and want to do both. Do I have to purchase separate then?
Sammi says
Our tour partner runs open tours so they take as many guests are booked for the day, for children under 5, they recommend a private tour in case the child gets fussy or something happens as not to disturb other guests and also because on an open tour, they cannot stop, wait or make changes in the plans in case the child wants to leave or something occurs. Open tours can have 10, 15, 18, (a lot of people) on the tour that they have to stick to a schedule and stay on.
Lorelei Hodgson says
Hi! Thanks for all the info!
We are going to the hanging bridges in Arenal, and also Manuel Antonio Natl Park. Which would you pick a guide for? Would like to do one self-guided and one with a guide. Thank you!
Sammi says
I would say both but if you really can only do one…I’d go with the hanging bridges, you will miss a lot if you go on your own since there aren’t any signs really or information throughout the park. At the Manuel Antonio national park, there are many signss with information in the park and wildlife is easier to see there than the hanging bridges (also if you see groups of people in the national park looking up and pointing at something, it’s easy to check out what they’re looking at).
Stefanie says
Hello. When you book the Canyoning Tour does this include a stop at La Fortuna waterfall as well?
Sammi says
Not the pure trek canyoning tour
Dejay says
Hi! we have a large group (20 people including children) we do have an infant who would be traveling if the mother has the infant in a carrier would she be able to bring him on the boat?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hello Dejay, can you please let us know what tour you are referring to?
Haley Peck says
Hi there,
I’m looking at the 4 in 1 combination tour ending at Tabacon hot springs. Do you know what time we would get to Tabacon? I’d like to make sure we see it in light and not just at dark.
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Haley, it would be in the dark after the sunset because the last activity ends around 530 PM so you’ll get to Tabacon by 6 PM and the sun sets by 6 PM everyday.
Jeral says
Hi,
Looking to do the Volcano Combo tour in July. What is the usual price range for tour and how long does it last?
Sammi says
Hi Jeral, that would be the combination tour and the price depends on which hot spring you go to. In the drop down menu, you can check out the different options and see prices in the description on this page.
Nikko says
Hi!
My girlfriend and I were looking to take a horseback riding tour in Arenal. We were between the “Horseback Riding” option and the “Arenal Canopy Adv. with Horseback & Tarzan Swing” option. Is the Arenal Canopy Adv. w/ Horseback & Tarzan Swing the same thing as the “Horseback Riding” option but with the additional canopy tour/ziplining after? Or do you get to see more on horseback with the “Horseback Riding” option? Please let me know!
Thank you for your website btw, it’s very helpful!
Sammi says
Hi Nikko! The tour for just horseback riding (no canopy) is longer than the horseback riding + canopy. The horseback riding tour goes to a couple more trails and is longer.
Domingo Jaramillo says
If we are booking Jacamar Arenal hanging bridges from 8a-10:30 are we able to book/stay with them for the next tour whitewater rafting balsa river at 10:30a?
Sammi says
Hi Domingo, unfortunately no there won’t be enough time as the hanging bridges tour ends at 11 AM and the last pick up for the rafting is 1030 AM.
Emily H says
I am traveling to Costa Rica this summer with my SO. This will be his first time out of the country and I want to make our trip as smooth as possible. I am looking into booking the combination tour (Hike & Nature). I notice above it is stated that transportation will pick you up at any hotel. Does this include Hotel Las Colinas?
Sammi says
Hi Emily, yes they provide roundtrip transportation from hotels in downtown La Fortuna to Tabacon!
Lynda Hausman says
We’re staying in Chachagua with a 4 wheel drive and would like to hike the Children’s eternal cloud forest. The Alltrails app took us on a merry chase that doesn’t match waze if I enter the Pocosol Biostation as my destination. Any suggestions how to get tot the trail head from Chachagua?
Thanks tons,
Lynda
Sammi says
Hi Lynda, here is the station on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/PcMam7QzEmW7cFB36
Sarah says
Hi there,
We are just wondering which company the ziplining is with if possible as we would like to zip over the waterfall on Arenal if possible? Is that the same à AMA?
Sammi says
I think that one is with Arenal Mundo Aventura!
Ann McCullough says
Staying 3 nights at the royal corin, with my mom. We would like to do hanging bridges, waterfall, volcano hike, zip lining and hot springs. Wondering since we’re staying at royal corin is it necessary to do the hot springs. Also we’re going to Manuel Antonio for 4 nights would you recommend zip lining in Arenal or Manuel Antonio?
Sammi says
As you’re staying at hot springs, I wouldn’t go to another resort, the Corin has really nice hot springs and it’s not really worth to spend a lot more money to visit another resort in my opinion.
You can zipline at both places, Arenal does have a lot more options than Manuel Antonio, especially if you want to do a more extreme ziplining, the Sky Trek in ARenal is amazing.
Paula Baughman says
Is there a bus that you can get at the airport in San Jose that will take you to a Uvita?
Sammi says
From my understanding, Tracopa passes by the Villa Bonita stop in front of the SJO Airport but I am not 100% sure. Maybe check the Tracopa website and contact them to see.
Tamer Abdelaal says
Hi,
LOVE your website! …. thxs for making it easy for a busy business traveler.
I’m here for 1 day Sept 14-15 (arriving around 12 pm — driving from Jaco)
I wanted to do on a hike/tour/Mistico Hanging bridges and try zip lining … then spend my evening at a hot spring. What would you recommend for a tour for a quick traveler?
THANK YOU!!
Sammi says
Hi Tamer! You can check out Sky Adventures, they have hanging bridges and a really fun zipline. At Mistico, they have a nice hanging bridges and canyoning, if you want to do that. You can do it in the afternoon, try to do it asap because it tends to rain more in the afternoons. Then you can go to any of the hot springs around, you can check our post here for options: Best Arenal hot springs
Phillip Brady-Joyner says
Hi there –
Do you know if it’s possible to do the Hanging Bridges tour and the Slothies and Birdies guided walk on the same day? We’re only in the area for one full day, so would love to do both!
If so, would we take the transportation back to our hotel (Tabacon) in between the two or just stay somewhere in the Arenal area? And do you have a recommendation on which we should do in the morning and which in the afternoon?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Phillip!
Sure you can do that, they are both a couple hours walk so one in the morning, one after lunch. I would go with hanging bridges in the morning and slothies and birdies in the afternoon.
Jacamar can drop you off back at your hotel or if you want to get dropped off in La Fortuna, that is fine too. You can write that in the special comments and they’ll coordinate it.
Phillip Brady-Joyner says
Thank you! I’m having a hard time finding the times for each. Do you know when the pick-up would be for:
– Slothies and Birdies AM
– Slothies and Birdies PM
– Hanging Bridges AM
– Hanging Bridges PM
Thanks again!
Sammi says
730 AM and 1 PM for both. The exact time will depend on your hotel so it may vary a little bit, they will give the exact pick up time in the confirmation once the tour is booked.
Yvonne says
Hi! I’d like to book a couple of tours for my family but before doing so, can you tell me if they will do pick up at our hotel, Heliconias Nature Lodge?
Sammi says
Hi Yvonne, they can however there is a $40 transportation fee.
Sammi says
Hi Lara!
Jacamar does have a minimum age of the tour which is 5, for a family with a 3 year old they can do a private tour so they can have more flexibility in case something happens with the young child. This is because on an open tour, they are on a strict set schedule and there are other guests. The whole tour is a full day, with pick up around 730 AM and ends around 530 PM or so.
Lara says
We are looking at the Hiking Lovers tour. We’d be coming from the Playa Hermosa area and would be driving ourselves to the Jacamar office by 8 AM so we know it would be an early morning for us. We have 3 kids: ages 6, 8 and 3. It says the minimum age for the tour is 5: does this mean the 3 year old would be free, or would he not be allowed on the tour? He’d likely be in a hiking backpack. Also, how long is the tour? We’d be driving back that same day and are trying to decide if it’s doable and what time we’d be heading home. Thanks!
Paul McDermott says
Hi Sammi
iCan you do most of these tours self guided? Like hikes to the waterfall, Rio Celeste, hot springs, hanging Bridge and to the Volcanoes.
Thank you
Sammi says
Yes you can definitely do them self guided!
Jeff Gossman says
Hello,
Any tours to Rio Celeste from Arenal area?
Sammi says
Hi Jeff! Yes! Jacamar runs a Rio Celeste tour (one day) from La Fortuna. You can find it in the drop down list of tours (Rio Celeste and Tenorio Volcano Hike)
Kathy says
How long of a ride is it from La Fortuna if you want to do the Class 3 & 4 white water rafting trip? I’m trying to decide between the two different trips and the shuttle ride to/from might the deciding factor.
Sammi says
That one has a pick up time around 8 AM and is about a 1 hour ride. The Balsa river that is Class 2 and 3 is about a 30 minute drive.
Susan says
Do you have excursions to the cloud forest and Monteverde?
Sammi says
Hi Susan, I just sent you an email about it 🙂
Evan says
Do you have a combo pure trek canyoning tour with wave expedition class 2/3 rafting tour for a family of 5?
Sammi says
Hi Evan! We do! When you fill out the form, just write a note in the comment section that you’d like to combine the two tours and we can get you set up for both.
Sarah B West says
Hi there! Your recommendations have become my go-to for planning our family’s trip to Costa Rica after Christmas! Quick question, our family of 4 would love to do the tamest, beginner (hahaha) zipline, hanging bridges, and a hot springs. Is there a 3-1 with that?
My hubby is a bigger guy. About 6’0, 280 lbs. What is this company’s weight limit for ziplining?
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Sarah! That’s awesome, glad it’s been helpful!
The zipline that Jacamar offers (the tour company we work with to give discounts) has a very nice beginner family oriented zipline, beautiful views and fun but nothing crazy high or fast.
As for your husband, as long as the harness can fit him he can do it. The biggest it goes is 42 inches. In the booking form, you can request the zipline and put a note in the comment section that you’d like to do hanging bridges and which hot spring you’d like to go to (Baldi/Tabacon/Ecotermales) and we can do a combo day tour for your family with the discount 🙂
Let me know if you have other questions!
Mercedes Rico says
Hi,
I do not see the ATV tour on the drop down list. How can I book that tour to insure the discount?
Sammi says
Hi Mercedes, I just sent you an email
Jennifer says
How long is the horseback ride…hours? What is the charge for 2 adults, 14yo and 12yo?
Sammi says
Hi Jennifer, the horseback riding tour is around 3 hours. You can find prices in the drop down menu for the horseback riding tour option 🙂
amy says
Hi,
We will be at Los Suenos and adding on two additional days to see the Arenal area in March. Is there a combination tour with the bridges and horseback ride that we could do in one day?
Thanks
Amy
Sammi says
Hi Amy!
Yes you can definitely do that. You can fill out the request for the hanging bridges and write a note that you’d like to do the horseback riding in the afternoon on the same day and we can get you booked for that.
Christa says
Hi!
My boyfriend and I are interested in a combo tour that goes to the hanging bridges and ecotermales hot springs. We are staying at arenal observatory lodge. Do you have a recommendation?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Christa, you can request for the hanging bridges tour and put a note you’d like to go to Ecotermales Hot springs and we can arrange it for you with Jacamar.
Melina Chow says
Hi! so much great information on this website!
If I want to book a tour (eg. Penas Blancas River Float) but we already have our own car is there a discount since we won’t be needing the transportation?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Melina! For the safari floats, Jacamar recommends to take their transportation since it is easier. If you want to drive, you can meet at the jacamar office in the morning and follow their shuttle to the river. They can bring you back to the start point. There is a small discount for it (I think around $5-10, I will have to check with them to make sure exactly how much).
Tina pittore says
Hi! Love your site. So much helpful information.
Is there a combo tour you’d suggest if we want hot springs, hanging bridges, La Fortuna waterfall and the Arenal Volcano hike? We have a full day.
Also, If we are staying at an air bnb, what is your suggestion for getting to/from the pickup location? We do not plan to rent a car bc there is 6 in our group. Are taxis reliable ? Will they fit all of us? Any suggestions would be very helpful!!
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Tina! Yes that one is called the Arenal combination tour and you can choose which hot spring you want to go to. You can find it in the drop down list.
Roundtrip transportation is included in the price but they can only pick up from hotels, so if you could include a map of where your Airbnb is, we can find the best pick up location for you.
Leo says
Hi Sammi,
Actually, I have 1.5 days at Arenal, 2 nights. Sorry it wasn’t clear. So I was wondering if there is a combo tour of zip line and Cannyoning? Or is it possible to sign up for both these tours Pure Trek Canyoning and Arenal Canopy Adventure and tarzan swing on the same day?
Sammi says
Hi Leo! Sorry I misread! Yes you can definitely do Canyoning and Arenal canopy + tarzan swing in one day with Jacamar! 🙂 You can do either one in the morning or afternoon. Let me know if you have other questions! You can make two separate requests for the same date and just indicate if you’d like AM or PM tour for both.
Leo says
Hi, Thanks for all the information on the blog. We also booked our car rental through you and was happy to see you also have discounts on tours. We only have a day an a half in Aerenal so have to squeeze everything in. Is there a combo tour of zip line and Cannyoning? Is it possible to do both these tours on the same day?
Sammi says
Hi Leo! For a half day, you wouldn’t be able to do both. Canyoning is a half day completely and ziplining is around 2 hours so you’d have to do one or the other if you only have a half day.
Wendy says
What is the cancellation policy for booking the Pure Trek Canyoning?
Sammi says
Hi Wendy, cancellations or no shows the day of is 100% no refund. If cancelled before 5 PM the day before the tour, the refund is 100% of the payment.
Pamela Thomas says
Can we book these tours on christmas day? (dec 25/18)
Sammi says
Hi Pamela, yes definitely, the tours will be running.
Heather says
Hi,
Is there a combo for
The hanging bridges trail
The national park hike
Hot springs
and Cannyoning?
If not, how long is the Pure Trek Cannyoning tour?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Heather! Due to time, you can’t do all the activities. You can do 2 out of the 3 so hanging bridges, national park and hot springs or canyoning, hanging bridges and hot springs. It’s because the canyoning is an entire half day and the volcano hike is a bit longer too.
Pure Trek canyoning is a half day and they have it in the AM and PM. If you do AM, pick up is around 730 AM depending on your hotel and return is after lunch time.
Syeda says
Hi! My boyfriend and I are planning on staying at Tabacon Hot Springs Resort for a week in July 2019. How can we create an itinerary for that week without doing too much in one day? Also, since we’ll be staying at Tabacon already and I see that some tours include hot springs day passes, I assume we don’t need to pay for those day passes? And another very important question, we both have Celiac disease so our diets are completely Gluten Free. Would it be possible that the meals that come with certain activities be gluten free?
Sammi says
Hi Syeda, my recommendation would be to dedicated a few days to tours and alternate so you have one day tour, one day relax. Since most of the activities are not very far away in La Fortuna, you can do multiple activities. The combination tour is a great one but because you’re staying at the Tabacon Resort, you can do the hiking lovers tour (hanging bridges, La Fortuna waterfall and volcano hike). That alone will get you some good hiking in and a lot of nature. Then another day you can do an adventure like canyoning, rafting or ziplining if you’re interested.
For the meals that’s totally fine. Most of Costa Rican food doesn’t have gluten and the meals they serve for lunch is typical Costa Rican so that’s rice, meat, salad and beans but when you make the reservation, write a note so that we can pass it to the tour company just to be 100% sure.
Pooja says
Hi Sammy, how long is the Pure Nature Safari float? Thanks for all the wonderful info you provide!
Sammi says
Hi Pooja! This one is a bit longer, it’s like a 2/3 day trip because the drive is around 1 hour from La Fortuna to the river. They pick up around 730-8 AM and return is around 2-3 PM. If you’d like to do a shorter one, the Penas Blancas is only about a 20 minute drive from La Fortuna and is a half day.
Pooja says
Hi Sammy, For the combo tour that includes lunch and dinner, are there options for vegetarians? Thanks for the awesome blog!
Sammi says
Hi Pooja! Yes you can definitely get a vegetarian option. The dinner is a buffet so you can choose whatever you like and they have plenty of vegetarian options. Lunch is traditional Costa Rican and we can put in a note for a vegetarian option.

Hi Sammy
Love your blog , lots of helpful information, special for me first time travel to Costa Rica. My question can be a little tricky … we are a group of 4 adults and we want to do the Combo tour in Arenal , as we are staying there just for 2 nights. I read a lot of tripadvisor reviews to select with whom we will do the tours. Although Jacamar have very good reviews , for the Combo tour I only found 2 , normally I choose when there’s a significant number of reviews . So I am stuck deciding the tour. I have seen others and they are much more expensive. In fact Jacamar is very attractive in terms of price, and I know you recommend, but this is one of the most expensive tours , one opportunity and I need to increase my confidence . can you help us…
Sammi says
Hi Ana, the combination tour Jacamar offers is a full day. The Jacamar Arenal combination tours consists of the Mistico Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna waterfall, lunch, Arenal Volcano hike and hot springs. I wrote a post about it you can read here: Arenal Volcano Tours
Jacamar offers several different combination tour options but the only difference is the hot springs. They have tours with these different hot springs: Baldi, Ecotermales, Tabacon and the Springs (order from cheapest to most expensive) and you can choose which one you want to go to. You can read about the differences here: Best Arenal hot springs
In the form on this page, we offer the Baldi, Ecotermales and Tabacon with prices listed so you can see how much the price difference is and choose from there.
Latania says
Hi there,
My boyfriend and I are planning are trip to Costa Rica in October and I would like to confirm the price for the guided tours combination of arenal volcano, hanging bridges, and waterfall. Is the total price for two $136.80 or is it $136.80 per person?
Sammi says
Hi Latania! It is $136.80 per person with the 10% discount. Let me know if you have other questions!
Latania says
Hi Sammy, thank you for the reply.
Annie says
Hello there,
Thanks for the info!
I have 2 questions:
1. When the page lists the prices for groups of people (like a group of 5), is the price for everyone in total, or is that price per person?
2. Also, can we pay for the tours in Costa Rican colones at the office instead of U.S. dollars?
Thank you!
Sammi says
Hi Annie! The price is per person and you can definitely pay for the tours at the office instead of US dollars prepaid. We just ask that you still fill out the form so that we can have a record of your tour request on hand so Jacamar can temporarily hold the spot for you until it is paid.
Eva says
Hi! I’d love to book this for 8 Aug; (family of 4), unfortunately i dont have paypal (bad experience-was hacked so i stopped my account). However, i do have credit card. Is there an alternative possible?
Sammi says
Hi Eve, they do require the tour to be pre-paid so you can pay for the tour once you get to La Fortuna. You just have to go to the Jacamar office and pay there and they take credit card and cash. You can fill out the form and make the request now and I’ll put a note that you’ll pay at their office. It does need to be before the tour though so August 7 or before.
Naomi says
Hi mytanfeet,
I put in a request for PureTrek Hanging Bridges and Canyoning. How long does it take to get an acknowledgement email? or confirmation?
thanks.
Naomi
Sammi says
Hi Naomi, it should be right away. Did you receive an automatic email confirmation? If not, then all the required sections in the form were probably not filled out, when you complete the form you should see a big “Thank you for booking your tour, We will get in touch with you shortly” note. Can you try again and make sure all the sections are filled? You will instantly get a thank you email from us if the form went through.
Amy says
Hi samatha, I was wondering what the difference is between the Arenal hike + hot springs tour vs the combination + hot springs tour? The general information section doesn’t have anything for the combination tour. Thank you, I love your blog!!
Sammi says
Hi Amy! The combination tour goes to the Arenal hanging bridges, La Fortuna waterfall, lunch, Arenal 1968 volcano hike and then hot springs. I wrote a post you can see it here: Arenal Combination Tour and the Arenal hike is the Arenal 1968 reserve and hot springs.
Frank says
Hello Mytanfeet, we’re planning to be in the Arenal region at the end of July and we were wondering if we really have to book the Safari Float at Penas Blancas in advance, or if this is something we can plan once we are there. We prefer going with the flow, especially with our two kids, as we never know in what mood they will be… Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Frank! You don’t need to book the tour weeks in advance, but to get the discount through us we do need the request at least 24 hours before so we can process the payment and make the reservation so you can see how your kids feel the day before and let us know! 🙂
Frank says
Awesome, thanks for your quick reply and all the useful info on your blog!
Lily says
Hi,
We would like to book the pure nature tour on the rio frii but do not have (nor want) to get a paypal account. Is there another way to pay? We would live to get the discount as we are travelling on a budget!
Thanks,
Lily
Sammi says
Hi Lily, the tours have to be pre-paid to get the discount so you can go to the Jacamar office in La Fortuna to pay with cash or credit card before the tour date. You can submit the request and I will let the Jacamar team know.
Annie says
How long is the horseback riding tour to the volcano and waterfall ?
Sammi says
Hi Annie, the horseback ride goes around Arenal Volcano and then they will take you to the La Fortuna waterfall via car since you can’t ride to the waterfall. It’s about a 4-5 hour tour total.
Caryl Hudson says
We are planning our itinerary and would like a quote for this tour for 2 people. Thanks
Sammi says
Hi Caryl, you can check the tour prices information in the form (select the tour and the tour description will be below).
Sammi says
Hi Lisa, are you talking about the Mistico Hanging bridges? You have to book the tickets ahead of time at the park. The discounts we have are for guided tours only so if you want to do a self guided hike, you need to go to the Mistico hanging bridges website and book it yourself there. If you want to see the La Fortuna waterfall, you will have to go on your own because the tours we offer in this deal are for guided tours only. You can do both the hanging bridges and La Fortuna without a guide though, it’s more for people who need transportation and would like a guide to learn more about the nature and wildlife. La Fortuna waterfall is easily done without a guide since it’s just a walk down to the waterfall where you can swim or relax.
Lisa says
Hello! Do you need to book the self-guided tickets ahead of time or do you purchase them when you arrive at the park? If you need to purchase in advance, how do you do that? I only see the option for guided tours. We have a rental car and plan to drive to the park from the Royal Corin. Also, if you do the self-guided hanging bridges, does that allow you to see the waterfall as well? Thank you so much!
Lisa
Jill says
which white water rafting company/river? we are looking for the longest day one (8 hours) of class 2/3 rapids- thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Jill, there aren’t any rafting tours that are a full 8 hours of rafting (that is way too long, you will be too tired). Full day rafting tours are generally 3-4 hours plus travel time and half days are 2-3. For class 2 and 3 rapids, there is the River Balsa from La Fortuna or Sarapiqui for Class 3. Pick up is around 9 AM and you will return around 2-3 PM for the Balsa and around 4 PM for the Sarapiqui since travel times are longer.
George D says
Is it possible to catch the “Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge By Boat” tour in Los Chiles, or even the Refuge Rangers station rather than La Fortuna?
Sammi says
Hi George, if you want to drive to this tour, Jacamar requires guests to meet them at their office and follow them in their car because the entrance to the refuge is not easy to get to and clients easily get lost.
Vanessa says
How much per person for this combo
The hanging bridges trail
The La Fortuna waterfall
Lunch on a local farm
The national park hike
Hot springs
Sammi says
All prices are listed in this page when you select the tour. For this combo tour, it depends which hot spring you go to. Tabacon is $155 adults, Ecotermales is $140 per adult, Baldi is $122 per adult (all with dinner).
Karen says
Can we get the discount on the combination tour without the hot springs?
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Karen! Yes! The tour is called “Hiking lovers”
t. says
what should I pack for this day trip? extra clothes/shoes?
Sammi says
Hi, which trip are you referring to?
Paula says
Much is the Hot Springs only
Sammi says
Hi Paula, it depends which hot springs but unfortunately we don’t offer any discounts on just the hot springs entrance, just if it’s in a combination with other tours.
