San Jose Day Tours discount FAQ
Is transportation included outside San Jose?
No. They only pick up at hotels in San Jose and the San Jose Airport area. They do not pick up at hotels in Alajuela, but we will let you know via email if your hotel is inside the free transportation zone. If it isn’t, you can get picked up at your hotel for an extra fee or you need to meet the group at the closest meeting point.
Additionally, if you’re staying at a regular house or unmapped Airbnb, you will need to go to the closest hotel for pick up and drop off as a meeting point.
Can they drop me off somewhere other than San Jose?
It depends. If you are doing a tour like Manuel Antonio National Park or Arenal, you can stay in the area after the tour as long as your hotel is on the route. If it isn’t, they can drop you off at a point but they can’t detour off their route.
There is no no discounted rate for not taking transportation back to San Jose and they can only drop you off along their route. Please let us know in the comments and we will help you arrange it.
Which tours do you recommend?
You can experience everything Costa Rica is known for from San Jose. See volcanoes, have a beach day or go on some fun outdoor adventure! The most popular tour guests book is the combination tour which includes Doka Coffee Tour, La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Poas Volcano National Park.
Another popular one is the Irazu Volcano, Orosi and Lankester.
Nature and wildlife: Authentic Rainforest Experience, La Paz, Poas, Arenal Volcano, Irazu Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, San Luis hanging bridges
Adventure: Canopy San Luis, ATV, Horseback Riding, Rafting (Adventure combo)
Sightseeing/culture: Lankester and Cartago, San Jose city tour, Doka coffee tour, Mirador Tiquicia, Irazu Volcano + Hacienda Orosi
I’m a solo traveler. Can I still get the discount?
Yes! But we do need to check availability because you can only join tours that are already open. If there are tours already running, then we can book you for it and give you the discount.

This was an excellent tour of Irazu with Expediciones Tropicales. Our guide Greivin was knowledgeable, professional and a lovely person . I appreciated the small discount we got through Mytanfeet after using the website extensively to research my trip.
Sammi says
Hi Christine, thank you for your feedback about the tour! We’re glad you enjoyed it and you had a good guide 🙂
Jade says
Hello,
I’m interested in booking the 3 in 1 rainforest tour, do they pick up from Hotel Le Bergerac Boutique?
Sammi says
Hello Jade, please use the booking form on this page and once it’s filled out we will get back to you via email
Sydney says
Hello! I was looking at the Arenal and Bali Springs tour. It says it might be possible to say in Arenal if we do one of those tours. Does that mean we would be able to bring our carry ons with us during the tour?
Sammi says
Correct! Their shuttles have a storage compartment so you will leave your luggage in the van during the tour which will be locked the whole time and the driver will be there. Just leave a note in the comment section of the booking form which hotel you’re staying at so we can check if it’s along the route, but if it’s not along the route, we will find the closest drop off point to your hotel.
Marsha says
Hi – we’re interested in the La Paz Waterfall tour (the one that offers lunch and has a pickup time around 10 am), do you know the maximum number of guests they allow? (we’ve seen from 15 – 30 and are more interested in the smaller group size).
Thanks!
Sammi says
Hi Marsha, for our partner’s shared tours, they will take as many people who are booked on that day. They have a minimum of 2 people and max is however many book which can be anywhere from 10, 20, 30, or whatever amount so it is difficult to say how many people are on the tour. The only way to guarantee a small group is a private service which will be only your group
Bert says
Hello, do you pick up at Studio Hotel in Santa Ana?
Sammi says
Hi Bert, yes, that hotel is included in the free transportation zone
Mireille says
How much of the tour time is spent picking up from different hotels?
Sammi says
It depends on how many people are on the tour and where they are staying so it can on average 30 minutes but if theres a lot of people staying spread out throughout San Jose it can be around an hour if traffic is bad
Molly L says
Do they pick up at the Hyatt Place San Jose/ Pinares?
Sammi says
Yes!
Molly L says
Great! thank you! 🙂

I am looking for a day trip from San Jose, but need to be back to my hotel (downtown) for a meeting in the late afternoon. If I need to be at my hotel by 5pm at the latest, what tours do you recommend that could accommodate that time restraint?
Sammi says
You could check out the San Luis canopy, Irazu Volcano (Half day), Doka Coffe and Poas Volcano (that one may be a bit tight but if theres no traffic its possible),
Alan says
Do you know what time the tour would arrive at Paos? We would like to get there early (near opening) and are debating between driving ourselves and this tour
Sammi says
Which tour? (There are several to Poas)
Matheus says
Does Expediciones Tropicales pick up at Holiday Inn San Jose Escazu?
Sammi says
Yep!
Tracey says
Hi! we are wanting to take our daughter on the coffee/volcano tour in a couple of weeks as she is coming to visit us for Christmas. We live in El Rosario. Do you pick up at the Courtyard by Marriott next to Walmart in Alajuela? If so, around what time would we have to be there as we would have to take a bus or get an uber. Thank you!!
Sammi says
Hi Tracey! They do pick up at Courtyard Marriott. Pick up is usually around 630 – 730 AM but the exact time will be given in the confirmation.
PP says
I’m the only one and wondered if the tour price showing included what? Also with entrance fee?
Thanks
Sammi says
Hi, if you choose the tour you want, the description and what it includes will pop up below. Once you have submitted the form, I’ll check availability to see if the tour you want to do is available since they can’t run with just one person.
Sage says
A group of classmates and I (we are studying abroad in San Jose) live in Curridabat. How far into San Jose do we need to go for pickup?
Sammi says
Hi Sage! The closest is Mall San Pedro for pick up and drop off.
Don Nicholson says
We want to zipline over the canopy. We are senior citizens but in good shape. Which would be best view of jungle, day trip from San Jose or day trip from Tamarindo? We are staying in both for several days.
Sammi says
Rainforest Adventures Atlantic has a great zipline with nice views of the rainforest from San Jose. In Tamarindo, Black Stallion has a fun zipline.
Maria W says
Do these tours pick up at hotels near the airport that aren’t technically in San Jose?
Sammi says
Hi Maria, yes they do! They can pick up around SJO Airport and the downtown San Jose area.
