For our last two nights in Bangkok, we wanted to stay as close to downtown as possible to see all the action. We had previously spent our first week in Thailand incredibly busy at TBEX Asia so we didn’t get to experience the bustling downtown life.
So when it came to choosing a hotel to stay at to be as central in Bangkok as possible, the Amari Watergate Bangkok was immediately our first choice.
Although we had an incredibly early morning flight meaning we were only at the hotel for a total of 1.5 days, we absolutely adored the Amari Watergate Bangkok. If you’re looking for a modern 5 star hotel in downtown Bangkok, the Amari Watergate is one of the top picks to fit the bill.
Amari Watergate Bangkok
One of the best things about Amari (and there are many) is the location. You’re right in downtown next to the Platinum Shopping Mall, Pratunam Market, Central World and Erawan Shrine.
It’s about a 20 minute taxi ride with no traffic from the BKK airport.
We stayed in a executive room on the 32nd floor which meant we had access to the executive lounge that served breakfast and happy hour snacks and drinks.
The room is furnished with a very modern look and feels like it caters more towards the business traveler with a long desk, ergonomic chair and work lamp.
Bathrooms came with a separate toilet area, shower and tub. The wall separating the bedroom and bathroom actually had a switch where you could open up the partition if you like.
The rooms were decorated, furnished and equipped with everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel: robe, slippers, full bathroom amenities, complimentary water, tea and coffee, shaving and vanity mirrors, free Wi-Fi and flat screen TV and DVD player.
I fell in love with their beds. I’m kind of (OK really) picky when it comes to beds and their mattress and sheets were like sleeping in clouds. So soft!
The Amari Watergate Bangkok is huge. When you step into the lobby it seems like this vast building but there’s so much more. They have conference/ball rooms, tailors (yes the guys who alter clothes), a spa, gym with squash courts, a pool, a dedicated dining floor and various restaurants.
If you stay in the Executive rooms (which I highly recommend), you get access to their happy hour from 5-7PM everyday where they serve beer, wine, cocktails and have snacks.
This for me, was amazing. Yeison had a few beers while I sipped a cappuchino and snacked on salami, salmon, olives and crackers.
I love it when hotels offer a little something extra such as the happy hour. It really increases the value as you get to partake in this service only offered to those on the executive floor.
The happy hour and executive lounge breakfast is such an excellent value, especially when you realize that there are 600 rooms and only one main breakfast floor!
We wish we could have stayed longer at Amari to enjoy their facilities and services. However for the time we were there, the comfortable room, breakfast and happy hour was everything we could have asked for. The service was excellent, everyone was so friendly, the view of Bangkok was great, the food was delicious and did I mention the beds were heavenly to sleep in?
There were a couple things I noticed that could use improvement. It is an older hotel so some of the doors were cracked or didn’t fit properly in the doorway. I would have appreciated conditioner, not being too picky but as a 5 star hotel this is a standard bathroom amenity. The hair dryer provided was old, making a rackety noise and seemed like it was due to be replaced.
Other than that, which are small things anyways, we loved Amari Watergate Bangkok. If you’re looking for a place in downtown Bangkok that has all of the modern amenities, definitely stay here. You’ll feel like spoiled and pampered, especially if you stay in the executive rooms!
Huge thanks to Amari Watergate Bangkok for hosting us!
