Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of wildlife can be seen on the Monteverde Cloud Forest day tour?
The tropical cloud forest is a great place to see hummingbirds, the Resplendant Quetzal (type of trogon), monkeys, coatis and two fingered sloths. The cloud forest especially is great for birds.
However, please remember that seeing wildlife is not guaranteed. The guide will try their hardest and point out any animals they see, but the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is very big (10,500 hectares or ~25,950 acres) and the cloud forest is extremely dense. Mother Nature will do what it will and Costa Rica is NOT a zoo.
What is the trail like?
It depends on which trail you go on. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve has 3 different circuits, and the reserve will determine which trail your group takes for the tour.
For the Monteverde Cloud Forest day tour, you will walk around 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) slowly, as your guide will be stopping a lot to talk about the flora and fauna. You will also stop at the various view points.
The reserve has one hanging bridge and one waterfall, which, depending on which trail the reserve determines you can go, you may or may not visit.
All the trails are well maintained dirt paths with good signage. It is easy - medium difficulty level, there is a little bit of elevation and steps.
