Are you guys ready for an UNFORGETTABLE adventure? That was the first thing our guide said to us when we got onto the bus.
Heck yeah! I replied as my guide gave me a huge high five. And ready I was for this tour called Rainforest Falls.
It wasn’t my first time on a tour with Pure Trek as we have done their canyoning in La Fortuna tour before, so I knew we were going to have an awesome time.
This tour, Rainforest Falls, offers more excitement, more adventure and more fun in an exclusive river canyon surrounded by pure tropical rainforest. It’s an an adrenaline filled adventure tour with a heart-pounding mix of canyoning, waterfalls, river pools and cliff jumping.
If you’re visiting La Fortuna and looking for the ultimate river adventure, then check out Rainforest Falls.

The Start of the Tour
As the river canyon is located up high in the mountains, it offers spectacular views along the drive.
We drove one hour to the river, winding our way up rural mountain roads with sweeping views of the valley and Arenal Volcano in the distance and into the pristine rainforest. I could feel the air buzzing with excitement the closer we got, while we bounced around the back of an open-air 4×4 truck.
When we arrived at the river operation camp, I hopped out of the truck and took a long look around us. We were surrounded by nothing but rainforest and faintly in the distance, I could hear the sounds of a river nearby.
After we put our things away, the guides geared us up with harnesses, gloves, a helmet and a life jacket. Ready guys? our guide called out. Follow me!
The First Waterfall Rappel
Our trusty guides led us down to the start of the tour on a short dirt path into the lush jungle. I could hear the sounds of the roaring waterfall get louder as we approached a platform, where we would do our very first waterfall rappel, the tall one at 32 meters or 104 feet.
Since I had already done the canyoning tour before, I was familiar with it and felt comfortable as the guides hooked me up to the lines and swung me out. Here I go! I yelled out.
The rappel was not difficult, as you have a guide on the top and bottom to help you go down. If you have never done canyoning before, just enjoy it and don’t think too hard or else you will miss the absolutely INCREDIBLE waterfall right next to you.
For this waterfall rappel, when you get near the bottom, they tell you to let go of the rope so that the guide swings you out and then fully dunks right into the refreshing waters of the sparkling oasis.
If you weren’t already super hyped up and excited already, that plunge into the cool river will surely waken up all your senses!
While I swam in the pool, I watched Yeison do his waterfall rappel. Unlike the other canyoning tour where the pools were more shallow, this one had a deep pool that you can swim in.
WOW! What an awesome first waterfall rappel! It’s not as high as the first waterfall in the canyoning tour, but it definitely had more water and had this beautiful emerald green color.
Alright, now you guys awake? Ready for some jumps? Our guide yelled at. We all yelled at SI! Let’s go vamos chicos!
We started climbing through the river canyon, over the rocks and steps to get to the first jump. I was SO full of energy at this point and just marveling at the gorgeous scenery around me.
Just pure rainforest, with only the sounds of birds, insects and the river.
Just us, the guides and a woman named Veronica that was also on the tour with us, whom we quickly befriended.

The Pool Jumps
Now it was time for the jumps into the river pools! The first jump of 4.5 meters or 15 feet looked much taller than I expected, since they said that it was a “starter jump” to make you feel comfortable.
I’m not really one for cliff diving, nor have I really done it before so peering down over the platform, 15 feet into the water, did make my knees shake a tiny bit. Even after doing an 80 meter/262 feet bungee jump in Greece the year before, 4.5 meters looked tall!
Are you sure? I asked. Si se puede! My guide cried out as he leaped over the edge into the pool. OK well obviously these guys are pros and locals who grew up hurling themselves into the river, so of course they’d make it look so easy and fun!
Veronica and Yeison wasted no time at all, eagerly launching themselves off the platform to jump into the crystal clear pools. Then they wasted no more time to climb back up and jump again!
A cool thing about this tour, as it’s normally a small group setting, is that you can jump more than once, as many times as you want!
That first jump was the perfect height because for first timers, it does push you a bit (mentally) but once you do it, you feel so accomplished and like you’re on top of the world. And that you’re ready for everything else in the tour.
The next jump was short and sweet, just 1 meter and the third jump, was much higher at 7 meters or 23 feet. This one, I had to give myself several minutes and a good pep talk before just GOING for it!
That third jump was a doozy for me. As I jumped, I felt my stomach lurch a bit and I had to let out a little scream! As I came up for air, I had to shake my head to get the water out of my ear. Buen trabajo! one of the guys gave me a fist pump as I pulled myself up a rock. Iouldn’t believe I just did that!
I swam in the pool a bit, to calm myself down and then we moved onto the next part of the tour, to climb up the ladder and get to our next waterfall rappel.
The Last Jump
Now it was time for the big one jump. The big Kahuna. 11 meters/36 feet into a 7 meter/23 feet pool. I could tell this one was our guide’s favorite part because they just eagerly ran up to the platform and leaped off without any hesitation. Vamos chicos!
If you’ve never done bungee jumping, sky diving, cliff diving or something of that sorts, it’s a crazy experience, no matter from what height. Throwing yourself out of a plane, jumping off a bridge, leaping into a river, is just not natural and your mind will fight against it every second of the way.
This tour was definitely one to challenge not just your body but your mind but once you launch yourself off and hurl yourself towards a crystal clear pool of water, in a pristine river canyon surrounded by tropical jungle, it’s an incredible feeling.
The HIGH you get when you get out of the water is what people live for and why they do extreme sports. You just want to feel that feeling again and again and again!
Their slogans “Jump into adventure!” and “Level up your adventure!” for this experience is more than 100% appropriate. You will truly level up your adventure and jump into adventure on this Rainforest Falls tour!
There are only a few tours in Costa Rica that I would do multiple times and Rainforest Falls is one of them. I can’t wait to bring my adventurous friends and family to embark on this amazing experience!
