Surround yourself with stunning views of the rainforest, while you embark on an unforgettable La Fortuna rafting tour, either Class 2 and 3 for beginners and younger families, or Class 3 and 4 to battle epic rapids down a pristine river.
La Fortuna Rafting Class 2 and 3
- Minimum age is 7.
- Pick up time is between 930 AM - 1030 AM. Exact pick up time will be given in your confirmation when the tour is booked.
- 5 hour tour duration.
- ~1 hour drive to river.
- First half of rafting tour has Class 2 and 3 rapids.
- Stop halfway through the rafting tour to swim, jump off cliffs and enjoy fruit.
- Last half of rafting after the break is Class 1 and 2 rapids.
- Lunch is after the rafting.
La Fortuna Rafting Class 3 and 4
- Minimum age is 18.
- Pick up time is between 730 AM - 830 AM. Exact pick up time will be given in your confirmation when tour is booked.
- 6 hour tour duration.
- ~1 hour drive to river.
- First half of the rafting has bigger rapids.
- About halfway through, you'll stop for a break to swim in a natural pool and have fruit.
- Last half of the tour, rapids are more Class 2 and 3.
- Lunch is after the tour.

- Pregnant women, people with epilepsy and people who had recent surgery or have major health conditions not allowed.
What to Bring
- Change of clothes, swimsuit, clothes that can get wet like swim shirt and board shorts
- Water shoes, closed toed hiking sandals, adventure sandals. NO flip flops or loose sandals.
- Plastic bag or waterproof backpack for clothes.
- Sunscreen.
- If you wear glasses, you must have the strap.
- Action camera (optional). Not all helmets have the adjoining mount. You can bring your phone if its secured in a waterproof pouch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need previous rafting experience?
No! The beauty of both of these tours, Class 2 and 3 and Class 3 and 4 is that no previous experience is required. This can perfectly be your first time white water rafting. Safety is the highest priority and all of the guides are certified, expert local guides who are very familiar with the rivers and the rapids.
You will be given a safety talk on how to paddle and what to do in case you fall out of the raft. Every person has to wear a life jacket and helmet.
What kind of shoes can I wear?
The best shoes would be water shoes or closed toed hiking sandals. You can also wear open toed hiking sandals, as long as it has a front and heel strap, like Tevas or Chacos. NO open sandals like flip flops are allowed.
You can purchase water shoes at the supermarket in La Fortuna for around $15 USD per pair. Please purchase them the day before your tour, as the tour operator cannot guarantee to have time to stop to buy them and they do not sell them.
What should I wear?
Please wear a swimsuit and clothes over your swimsuit, such as board shorts and a swim shirt or any clothes that can get wet and dries easily. For women, I do not recommend wearing just a bikini as you will be sitting on a raft and moving a lot for a couple of hours and wearing a life jacket, which can chafe and bother your skin.
What happens if it rains?
The tour will run rain or shine, but the tour operator will suspend or cancel if there is inclement weather that prevents the rafting from operating safely, such as floods, landslides, too high and fast levels of water, and lightning strikes. In case of those situations, we will communicate with the operator to reschedule or offer a refund.
Which tour do you recommend?
If you are a first timer, not that adventurous, want an easy going rafting trip and/or are traveling with younger children who are at least 7 years of age, I recommend the La Fortuna rafting Class 2 and 3. Class 2 and 3 is still fun enough to get your heart racing, but it won't be a non stop heart pumping adventure.
If you prefer more excitement, have good stamina and want something very exciting, then Class 3 and 4 is for you!
In case you have children who are at least 12 years of age and want to do Class 3 and 4, we recommend the Pacuare River rafting tour instead, which is Class 3 and 4 and has a minimum age of 12.
Do the tours go down different rivers?
Yes, Class 2 and 3 go to one river, Class 3 and 4 go to a completely different river. If you have people in your group who want to do one, and some others want to do the other, you will be split up and get picked up and dropped off at different times.
Both rivers are about a 1 hour drive from La Fortuna.
Any combo tours available?
Yes! If you don't want to do just one rafting tour, we offer an Adrenaline tour which is ziplining and La Fortuna rafting class 2 and 3. Fun all throughout the day!
