Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hacienda Guachipelin inside Rincon de la Vieja National Park?
No, it is not part of Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Hacienda Guachipelin is a private hotel with an adventure park, located outside of the entrance of Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The Guachipelin passes do not include national park tickets and you will not see the volcano.
Are the hot springs natural? Are the mud baths at the hot springs?
Yes. The hot springs are naturally heated by the Rincon de la Vieja volcano. The hot springs pools are next to the river, so you can also bathe in the river if you wish.
What is the lunch like?
It is a buffet style Costa Rican lunch, typically including rice, beans, salad, protein and vegetarian options. Coffee, fruit juice and filtered water are included. Please let us know in advance if you have dietary restrictions.
What should I wear?
If you are doing ziplining, horseback riding, tubing or the canyoning tours, you should wear comfortable outdoor clothes that do not restrict movement like loose microfiber or bamboo shirts and running shorts.
For the tubing, you should wear a swimsuit and a sun shirt or rash guard over it, to protect your skin from the life jacket and the sun. You must have closed toed shoes for the tubing. Open toed shoes are not allowed. You can wear adventure sandals as long as there is a toe bumper (like KEEN Newport H2).
When is the best time to visit the park?
Hacienda Guachipelin is very busy and popular during the high tourism season, starting from mid December to beginning of April. The water levels in the river are at their lowest in March and April, but it is still possible to go tubing, but you may stop more often and hit more exposed rocks.
River water levels are their highest in October, November and December but if the river levels are too high or rapids are too rough, or there is inclement weather, they will not allow the tubing.
