Frequently Asked Questions
Do you recommend the ATV or Jet ski first?
Either one is fine! If you are doing the afternoon schedule, it gets much hotter so you could do the ATV tour first, and then jet ski so you can cool off in the lake.
Do the tours take place in different places?
Yes. The jet ski tour departs from the El Castillo operation center on Lake Arenal and the ATV tour departs from Route 142 between La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano National Park.
How does the transportation work?
If you get transportation from Outback, they will provide the whole round trip transportation to both tours from your hotel.
If you drive yourself, depending on the order of activities you choose, you will drive to the operation center for the first activity, then drive to the operation center for the second activity.
The two operation centers are about a 25 minute drive apart with free on-site parking at each place. 4x4 not required.
Do I have to use the Montaña de Fuego hot springs entrance on the same day of the tour?
No, you can visit the Montaña de Fuego hot springs another day if you wish.
Is the lake very cold?
No! It's very refreshing, with water temperatures around 21° C (70° F). It's very humid and warm in La Fortuna, so you will definitely refresh and cool yourself during the jet ski tour because you will get wet!
Do I need to know how to swim?
It is recommended for the jet ski tour every participant has to wear a life jacket and helmet. There is one stop along the tour where you have the chance to swim in the lake, but this is optional. You will be on your jet ski during the whole tour.
I have never driven a jet ski or ATV, can I do the tour?
Yes. This tour is apt for first timers and beginners. The guides will give a thorough safety talk and instruction on how to operate the jet ski before the tour starts.
Same for the ATV. The guides will give the safety briefing and a practice run, before starting the tour.
Both vehicles are automatic and the jet ski has a safety key which the guide will show you how to use.
Can I bring my phone or belongings on the jet ski and ATV?
The jet ski has a secure compartment in the front console which you can store your belongings in. We recommend to still have a dry bag to put your phone and important items. Mytanfeet nor Outback Quads will be responsible for any damages to your belongings if you decide to bring anything on the jet ski.
You can bring an action camera like GoPro and you must be your own stick or mounts like a chest or hand mount. Outback Quads does not have helmets with the mount.
For the ATV, you can wear your backpack. If you are on a double, the person in the back (not driving) should wear the backpack. There is no compartment on the ATV in case it rains, so you should bring a waterproof backpack.
What happens if it rains?
The Lake Arenal jet ski tour runs rain or shine. The weather policies are as follows:
In the event of adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, lightning, or amber/red weather alerts, the activity will be canceled. If the activity has already been in progress for over an hour, a 50% refund will be issued. If the activity has not commenced, it will be rescheduled or a full refund will be provided.
Do I need to bring my passport or drivers license?
You need to bring your physical drivers license which is the original one and is valid. No paper copies, no temporary copies, no photo copies are accepted. The drivers license cannot be expired.
Is any food provided?
No. Fruit is provided at the end of the tour.
