If you’re looking for an epic, unforgettable outdoor adventure in Guanacaste, the La Leona Waterfall Tour is perfect for you.
Located in the rural town of Curubandé, this guided hike takes you through the dry tropical forest, a unique and precious ecosystem to hike along naturally blue colored rivers and through canyons to reach the cave where the stunning La Leona Waterfall lies.
The La Leona Waterfall tour is not your easy going, easy wandering waterfall hike. The entire journey, from start to finish, is an exciting adventure. Your trusty local guides will navigate through the dry tropical forest to take you to incredible view points of the blue colored rivers, navigate natural rock formations and wade through the refreshing river water.
Along the way, your guide will share with you the local myths and legends of La Leona, information about the local ecosystem, including the nearby volcanoes and their importance and impact on shaping Curubande as to what it is today.
Although wildlife is not the priority, your guide will point out any animals you may see along the way.
The reward at the end of this action packed trek will be well worth the effort as you enjoy a refreshing swim in the La Leona Waterfall pool.
*We book this tour as a private service, meaning it is only your group with the guide in the bus. There will be other groups at La Leona Waterfall Park, but you will not join another group.*

Although this tour runs year round, the best time is during the dry tropical season months, December through April. The driest and hottest months are February and March and is the best time for the La Leona waterfall tour in terms of intensity. River levels are low and the trails are very dry.
During the rainy season, May through November, the tour still runs but the river levels are much higher and the waterfall and pools are much bigger, so if you have young children or older seniors, please let us know so we can consult with the local guide what they recommend for the safest option.
During the rainiest months such as September and October, the waterfall tour may not operate due to inclement weather and dangerous conditions. The rivers may not be as blue during those months and the trails can be a lot muddier.
