On this horseback riding to Arenal Volcano tour, your trusty steed will take you through the pristine trails in a private reserve for stunning views of the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding lava fields.
The reserve has their own separate horseback riding trails, for a calm and peaceful riding experience through the sugar cane and wood plantations, green pastures and a nature reserve surrounded by old growth trees.
Your guide will stop at specific places on the trail to share the history and important facts about Arenal Volcano, particularly the impact of the deadly 1968 eruption.
All horses are calm, well cared and trained, to ensure the riders safety and the horses themselves.

Do I need previous horseback riding experience?
No. As these horses are well trained, calm and gentle, you do not need any previous riding experience. The guide will choose the appropriate horse for your riding level.
The guide will teach you how to navigate your horse but as the horses are well trained on the trail, you do not need to be an experienced rider. The horses know where to go.
What is the minimum age for the tour?
Children must be at least 7 years of age to participate in the tour. Children younger than 7 cannot participate, even if they have previous riding experience. Each person must ride their own horse, children cannot ride with a guide or other participant.
What is the physical fitness requirement?
This is an easy tour as you will do none to little walking as your horse will do all the walking for you. If you need assistance getting on the horse, the guide will help you.
The maximum weight is 220 lbs (99 kilos).
Pregnant women, those with severe heart conditions and those who have had major surgery in the last 6 months may not participate.
What if it rains during the tour?
This tour will run rain or shine but if there is inclement weather that prevents the tour from running safely or continuing to run safely, such as lightning, flooding, Red Alerts and the such, we will offer to reschedule the tour. If rescheduling is not possible, we will cancel without a penalty as long as the tour has not begun.
If you decide to turn back anytime during the tour on your own while there is no unsafe weather conditions, there is no refund.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Yes. You may bring your phone/camera on the tour but it needs to be secured in a pocket or with a lanyard. We are not responsible for any damage occurred to any items you bring on the tour. Please bring a waterproof backpack in case it starts raining.
