On this combination tour, you'll enjoy a leisurely horseback ride in a private reserve near Arenal Volcano to get unique views of the pastures, rainforests, surrounding valleys and the volcano.
Along the way, your knowledgeable guide will stop at points of interests and share information about the 1968 eruption. Your trusty steed will take you through sugar cane and wood plantations, green pastures and a nature reserve with old growth trees.
After the horseback riding, you will travel by car to see the majestic La Fortuna waterfall. Walk down the network of 500+ steps to reach the emerald green pool. Can I swim in the waterfall?
Yes. When you arrive at the waterfall park, the staff will inform the tour guide if conditions are suitable for swimming. If they are, you can swim in the waterfall pool and/or the river pool. If conditions are not suitable for swimming, please follow these rules as they are for safety purposes.
The park has bathrooms and changing rooms and the tour guide will have towels for you.
Do I need previous horseback riding experience?
No. All the horses are well trained and calm. They know the trails very well so it's almost like riding on auto-pilot. The guide will pick the appropriate horse according to your age, size and riding level.
Before the ride as you get mounted on the horse, the guides will show you how to sit properly, use the reins and guide your horse. You will have one guide in the front and one guide in the back of the group.
What should I wear?
For the horseback riding, we recommend long pants, comfortable shirt, hat and closed shoes.
For La Fortuna waterfall, please bring a change of clothes and swimsuit if you wish to swim.
Do we horseback ride to La Fortuna waterfall?
No. The horseback riding is done at a private reserve near Arenal Volcano. After the horseback riding, you will travel by car with the group and guide to La Fortuna waterfall.
Can my child ride with me on one horse?
No. For the horseback riding, each guest must ride their own horse.
My child is not 7 but they have horseback riding experience back home. Can they join the tour?
Unfortunately no. The minimum age to do the horseback riding is 7, regardless if the child has previous experience or not.
What are the driving times between the two places?
La Fortuna downtown to the horseback riding trail is about 20 minutes.
The horseback riding trail to La Fortuna waterfall is around 30 minutes.
La Fortuna waterfall to downtown is about 10 minutes.
