Two popular places in La Fortuna to experience the rainforest: Arenal Hanging Bridges Park and La Fortuna Waterfall. The tour starts with the 2.5 hour guided walk through a network of 6 hanging bridges and 10 regular bridges of different length and elevation, all with stunning views of the Arenal Volcano.
Your knowledgeable local guide will share facts about the rainforest and point out flora and fauna spotted along the way. After the hanging bridges walk, you will visit the majestic La Fortuna waterfall to cool off in the pool.
For those who do not want to get wet, you can admire the beautiful scenario from the observation platforms and relax on the riverbanks.
A delicious Costa Rican lunch is included in this tour after both activities, at the tour operator's private restaurant.

How much walking is on this tour?
The hanging bridges trail is around 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) with some elevation, around a 7 degree slope. The trail is fully concrete or asphalt, and there are some steps.
For La Fortuna Waterfall, there is around 500 steps down to the waterfall on a metal platform. You must climb up the same steps to exit the park. There are sitting areas along the way, so you can take your time and rest if needed.
Can I do these walks if I'm afraid of heights?
In order to do the entire guided hanging bridges walk, you must cross both hanging and fixed bridges. The highest bridge is 148 feet (45 meters). You can't skip the hanging bridges if you want to do the entire trail.
The La Fortuna Waterfall requires 500+ steps to go down to the pool. You don't have to walk across any hanging bridges but there are a couple of short fixed bridges.
Can I see any wildlife?
Yes, it is more possible to see wildlife at the Arenal Hanging Bridges guided walk. You can see animals like howler monkeys, spider monkeys, eyelash pit vipers and birds.
What shoes should I wear?
At the hanging bridges park, it is required to wear completely closed shoes such as tennis shoes, hiking shoes, walking shoes.
If you wear shoes that are not completely closed, you will have to sign a waiver saying the hanging bridges park is not responsible for any damages or injuries from not wearing fully closed shoes.
For the waterfall, adventure sandals with a heel and front strap are acceptable. We do not recommend sandals with an open back, flip flops or loose shoes as you have to walk on a lot of steps. Furthermore, if you go down to the pool, the rocks may be slippery. Water shoes can work for La Fortuna waterfall.
Can I swim in the waterfall?
Yes. You can get in the La Fortuna waterfall pool if the conditions are suitable, as it depends on the weather conditions. The waterfall park staff will inform the tour guide if conditions allow for swimming. The tour operator does not decide if conditions are suitable. Please follow the rules if the staff says conditions are not allowed for swimming as these are for safety purposes.
There are life guards at the waterfall pool and they will not allow you to get in the water if the conditions are not suitable for swimming.
Please bring your swimsuit, a towel and change of clothes if you wish to swim in the waterfall. There are bathrooms and changing rooms at the La Fortuna waterfall park.
