Frequently Asked Questions
How much walking is the night walk?
The total walking time is around 2 hours but the pace is very slow, as your guide will stop to find animals and share interesting facts about them.
What is the trail like?
It is an easy walk and does not include any elevation or steps. The path is a well maintained trail.
Is the night walk done at Arenal Volcano National Park?
No. The night walk is done at a private reserve, about a ten minute drive from La Fortuna downtown. This property is owned by the tour operator, so no other company will operate their night walk there. There are bathrooms at the property.
Can I take pictures?
Yes. We recommend a telephoto or macro lens if you are a photographer. The guide can also use your phone and take pictures on it for you. No flash please.
If you will be bringing expensive camera equipment, you have to bring a waterproof backpack and protective gear as La Fortuna is the rainforest, and it can rain even in the tropical dry season.
What should I wear?
We recommend long pants, a long sleeve tshirt, sturdy walking shoes and a rain jacket shell. As it's night time, there will be a lot of mosquitoes and bugs out, so cover up or use insect repellent. No open toed shoes, sandals or flip flops.
The tour operator does not provide ponchos or rain jackets if it rains, so please bring proper clothing.
Do I need to bring a flashlight?
You may if you have your own. The guide will provide flashlights/headlamps for the guests.
Do we get to see snakes?
I hope so! Snakes are one of the highlights during the night walk and the guide will do their best to find them for you. Animals that can be seen on this exclusive night walk in La Fortuna are snakes, frogs, sleeping birds, insects, arachnids, and lizards.
What happens if it rains?
This night walk will run rain or shine and will only be cancelled if there is dangerous weather like floods, lightning strikes, and the such that prevents the walk from operating safely.
Please make sure to bring proper clothing and equipment for rain.
