Description

Explore the biggest private reserve in Costa Rica, the Children's Eternal Rainforest. The Children’s Eternal Forest protects over 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) of primary and secondary rainforest.

This reserve’s mission is to protect, preserve, maintain and rehabilitate fragile tropical ecosystems and promote biodiversity through education and conservation.

The Bajo del Tigre sector in Monteverde is only 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Monteverde Cloud Forest, however, the Bajo del Tigre sector has a drier climate, meaning different flora and fauna call this place home.

On this guided night walk through one of the most special places in the country, your guide will find nocturnal mammals, sleeping birds, snakes, insects and other animals and share information about the reserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this night walk and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve night walk?
They are both fantastic places with excellent trails, however the Bajo del Tigre sector has a transitional forest with a drier climate. It houses different flora and fauna than the Monteverde Cloud Forest for this reason.

The tropical cloud forest reserve is wetter and very dense, Bajo del Tigre is drier and lower in altitude than the cloud forest reserve.

Both offer many opportunities to see flora and fauna, such as sleeping toucans, humingbirds and motmots, insects, frogs, and arachnids. The cloud reserve has more mosses, ferns, bromeliads and fig trees.

At the Bajo del Tigre reserve, you'll watch the sunset from their observation platform which is specatacular, as you get a full view of the sun going down over the Gulf of Nicoya.

What kind of wildlife will we see?
It is possible to see animals like sleeping birds like motmots, hummingbirds, trogons, snakes, frogs, tarantulas, two fingered sloths, armadillos and insects.

Please know that wildlife is not a guarantee but the guide does their best to find as much as possible. Mother Nature will do what it will and Costa Rica isn't a zoo.

How many people are in one group?
Minimum 2 people, maximum 9 people per guide.

How long and hard is the trail?
As a night walk, the guide will be stopping a lot along the walk. The distance is about 1 mile (1.6 kms) and the pace is slow. The trail is a well maintained, dirt path.

What should I wear?
We recommend long pants, rain jacket and closed shoes.
