The Children's Eternal Rainforest is the largest private reserve in not just Costa Rica, but in Central America, protecting 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres), within those hectares, 7 different life zones.
The reserve is owned by a Costa Rican nonprofit organization, the Monteverde Conservation League, and is also part of the UNESCO Water and Peace Biosphere.
This reserve’s mission is to protect, preserve, maintain and rehabilitate fragile tropical ecosystems and promote biodiversity through education and conservation.
A walk through this forest is ideal for anyone who loves nature, wants to support local conservation and sustainability programs and wants to experience a unique part of Costa Rica.

What is the difference between Bajos del Tigre and the Monteverde Cloud Forest?
The Bajos del Tigre is a transitional forest area that goes from premontane wet to seasonal moist. It is a bit lower in elevation as well, around 1200 meters (3937 feet) whereas the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is from 1500 meters to 1800 meters (4900 to 5900 feet).
Bajos del Tigre is drier than the cloud forest and has sections of regenerated forest, as some of it used to be farms and crop fields. Monteverde Cloud Forest doesn't have any forest, farms or open fields.
How hard is this hike?
There are many trails in the reserve and you will walk around 1.5 miles (2.4 kms. There is some elevation change, but the trails are well maintained dirt paths and the guide will be stopping often along the way. It's an easy to moderate level walk.
What should I wear?
Comfortable outdoor clothes, preferably long walking pants, closed shoes and a hat.
Will we see any wildlife?
Wildlife is never a guarantee but it's possible to see birds, butterflies, monkeys and agoutis. Your guide will stop and try to find any animals or birds they hear or see. They will also share information about the unique flora.
