It is a well maintained trail, but not fully asphalted or concreted. You need to be able to walk on dirt paths, that go up some steps. The park offers free walking sticks for visitors which you may use, if available.

No. The volcano hike goes to a private reserve that is right next to Arenal Volcano National Park. The reserve offers similar views and a very similar experience as the national park.

We highly recommend comfortable walking shoes for the volcano hike and then bring sandals for the hot springs. We do not recommend open toed shoes or sandals for the volcano hike.
Will we see any wildlife?
It is always possible, however the park is on the side where the lava flowed down Arenal Volcano and destroyed the rainforests. Though much of it has grown back, it is not a guarantee to see wildlife, but you may see animals like birds and snakes. Your guide will point our any animals he sees.
Which hot springs should I choose?
It depends. You can choose the one solely based on budget if that is your main concern, as all three hot springs resorts are suitable for all visitors. El Choyin does have the unique feature that is has its own path to the natural Tabacon River.
How long do we stay at the hot springs?
You can choose how long you want to stay as the guide will ask you what time you would like to get picked up to go back to your hotel. Most people stay the entire length of around 3 hours but you can go back early if you wish, you just need to inform the guide.
As a meal is included, we recommend to enjoy the hot springs first and then eat when you are finished.
