During this half day sightseeing tour, you'll see two of the most beloved places in the Cartago province: Orosi Valley and the Lankester Botanical Garden.
This tour is perfect for anyone who loves the world of flora and has a passion for history or culture.
The Cartago province is home to some of the most important cultural and natural sites in Costa Rica, as it was the original capital of the country until 1823. The tour takes you to the Virgin of the Angels Basilica in Cartago city, to see the beautiful Basilica with its vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and other exquisite art pieces.
Then, you'll take a guided walk through the Lankester Botanical Garden, a University of Costa Rica research center, with over 800 different species of bromeliads, plants and most impressive, orchids.
Lastly, the tour takes you to the Orosi Valley, for astonishing sweeping views of the valley and surrounding landscapes. Along the way back to San Jose, you'll stop at one of the only remaining colonial churches and stop for a delicious traditional lunch at one of the local restaurants.

How much walking is on this tour?
There is minimal walking on this tour. The most walking will be at the Lankester Botanical Garden, where you'll go on a guided walk through the research institute to see the different plants. The trail is fully paved and mostly outdoors.
The Orosi Valley and Basilica stop requires very little walking.
What are the driving times between the places?
San Jose to Cartago is about a 1 hour drive.
Cartago to Lankester Garden is a 7 minute drive.
Lankester Garden to Orosi Valley is a 20 minute drive.
Orosi Valley to San Jose is a 1 hour and 20 minute drive.
When do we have lunch?
Lunch will be at the end of the tour. Breakfast is not included, so please have a good breakfast before pick up. It will be a late lunch, around 2 PM.
