During this tour, you'll choose either a single or double kayak, to explore the Damas Island mangroves. Your guide will lead you through natural canals, and as you glide through the brackish waters, surrounded by the mangrove trees, they will point out various flora and fauna, and sharing interesting facts.
This tour is for those who want to get up close and personal with nature as you'll quietly paddle through the pristine waterways with natural tree tunnels on your kayak, without disturbing the wildlife.
Your expert naturalist guide will help you spot fascinating wildlife such as monkeys, bats, iguanas, herons, kingfishers and much more. You will kayak for about 2 hours and 15 minutes and there are single and double kayaks available.
The tour schedule is planned according to the ocean tide, and includes a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Do you need to have a lot of kayaking experience?
No. This tour is apt for beginners or first timers. The river is calm and your guides will lead the way, and assist you if you need help.
You will be given a safety briefing before the tour. Every person must wear a life jacket the whole time.
The river is calm so you won't be going through any rapids or doing strenuous paddling. However, the tour is moderate activity level, as you need to be able to sit in a kayak, paddle and float for at least 2 hours.
We do not recommend this tour for those with back problems, those who are pregnant, and those who have had recent major surgery.
My children have kayaking experience, can they ride alone or join the tour?
Children must be at least 6 years of age to do the tour and children between the ages of 6 and 8, will go in a double kayak with an adult.
Children must be at least 8 years of age to kayak alone if they wish to go in a single kayak.
Are there crocodiles in the river?
Yes but they do not attack kayaks. In high tide, crocodiles tend to go out further outside the mangroves, or stay on the shore. It is not common, almost never, that crocodiles will be swimming in the water next to you.
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. There is no swimming allowed in the tour. You do not need to know how to swim. In case you fall in the water, you have a life jacket on and the guide will help you back in the kayak.
When does this tour start?
The pick up time will vary throughout the year as the tour itinerary depends on the tide. The tour cannot run in low tide, only in high tide, so we will inform you of the pick up time.
If your tour is several months out, we will let you know the approximate pick up time so you can know when during the day is the tour, and we will inform you of the exact pick up time when the date is closer.
How long is the drive from Manuel Antonio to the mangroves?
Approximately 20 minutes, depending on your pick up location.
