Walk back in time on this classic San Jose city tour with a knowledgeable local guide, who will take you to important cultural sites and attractions in the city. Although San Jose, the capital city is not as old or big as other capital cities in the world, you can learn all about Costa Rica's young life in just a few of the cultural stops during this city tour.
The San Jose city tour includes stops at the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, which houses over 3500 artifacts, including 1600 pieces of gold from 300 BC to the 16th century, one of the biggest gold exhibits in the world.
Other stops include the lobby of the National Theater, Costa Rica's architecture jewel, the Central Market, the Old Train Station, Congress, Metallic Building, National Liquor Factor and a couple of other parks.
The San Jose city tour ends at an jewelry gallery where you can purchase souvenirs.

How much walking is there on this tour?
For a city tour, there is minimal walking as you will be riding the bus from place to place for a few of the attractions. There is some walking between the attractions in downtown, such as the National Theater, Museum of Gold and Central Market, but this is less than 1 kilometer (.62 miles).
You will also visit the Museum of Gold which has a few levels, but it is a small museum.
Are the stops the same every day?
Yes, for the most part. If the tour is running on a Sunday, the Central Market is closed so the tour will go to an art gallery instead. If you wish to visit the Central Market, please book on another day that is not Sunday.
Can we buy souvenirs or food during the tour?
Yes, at the Central Market you'll have some time to buy souvenirs or get something to eat/drink. Then at the end of the tour, you will visit a workshop that specializes in art and jewelry, and you may purchase souvenirs there if you want.
Food and drink is not included on this city tour, so please bring your own snacks and water.
Does the tour run if it rains?
Yes, the tour will continue running in the rain. Please bring appropriate gear such as a waterproof jacket and umbrella. The tour will only cancel if there is inclement weather, making it dangerous to run the tour such as heavy floods.
Can we request to visit specific attractions?
You can ask the guide if the attraction you want to is on the itinerary, but if it is not, then it is not possible. The guide cannot go somewhere that is not already on the list of places to visit.
If you wish to visit specific attractions, you must book a private tour as we can create custom tours but as a private service only. Please leave a note in the comment section that you'd like a private tour and which specific attractions you would like to visit.
