Description
During this tour, your guide will lead you through 2 different trails of about 2 miles (3.2 kms) each, where you can observe a wide variety of wildlife. Carara National is well known for its active bird life, including the vibrant and gregarious Scarlet Macaw.
This national park boasts the most Scarlet Macaw nests in Costa Rica, making it an incredibly crucial site for this beautiful endangered parrot.
An expert naturalist guide will point the different types of birds and animals you encounter and share facts about the different species you see along the trail.
You will also learn why Carara National Park is so important in Costa Rica, which is due to its important location, right in between the tropical dry and rain forest.
The tour also includes a visit to the world famous Tarcoles Bridge to safely admire dozens the largest crocodile population in Central America.
The tour will end with a delicious typical lunch before heading back to your hotel in Manuel Antonio or Quepos.

What are the trails like in the national park?
The trails are mostly dirt, but there is a short section where it goes through wooden platforms.
How difficult are the trails?
They are not that difficult but you need to be able to walk around 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) in the hot and humid forest. You will take a 20 minute break halfway through the hike. There is little elevation and steps, the trails are mostly flat.
If I'm not a birder, will I enjoy this tour?
Yes! If you love nature, walking/hiking and animals, you will definitely enjoy this tour. Your guide won't just be looking for birds either. You may see white face monkeys, howler monkeys, iguanas, lizards and other wildlife.
As the tour includes a stop at the Tarcoles Bridge, you will also see crocodiles.
What is the difference between Carara and Manuel Antonio National Park?
Carara National Park has trails through the rainforest, whereas Manuel Antonio National Park has beach and rainforest trails. Manuel Antonio is more popular than Carara and tends to be much busier. Carara is a favorite destination for birders to see the Scarlet Macaws.
When is lunch?
Lunch will be after the hike is complete at the national park, in the tour operator's base camp near Quepos.
