Frequently Asked Questions
Does this experience require a lot of walking?
No. There is very minimal walking and strenuous movement on this tour. The only walking you will do is to the restaurant and to the boat dock. The rest of the tour is sitting on the bus and then on the boat.
How long is the bus ride?
The bus ride from La Fortuna downtown to Los Chiles boat dock is approximately 1.5 hours. You will make a couple of stops along the way, including one bathroom stop.
What kinds of animals will we see on the tour?
Wildlife is not predictable, so what you see is not guaranteed. However, animals you are likely to see are howler monkeys, white face monkeys, spider monkeys, sloths, otters, iguanas, kingfishers, herons, aningas, bats, caimans, crocodiles, gray-cowled wood rail, Great Potoo, hawks and river turtles.
What is the boat like?
The boat is a covered riverboat. The sides are open. Seats are hard plastic seats with a back. Lifejackets are provided on the boat.
Are children allowed on the tour?
Yes. This is a fantastic tour for young children because there is no minimum age requirement. Babies and infants may join the tour, as long as they are with an adult at all times.
Are binoculars included?
No. Binoculars and telescopes are not included. You may bring your own if you wish. The guide will have viewing equipment with them and will allow you to look through them.
Can you accommodate my food allergies/diet restrictions for the lunch?
Yes, absolutely. Lunch is a traditional Costa Rican lunch plate of rice, beans, salad and protein, complete with a small desert, juice, water and coffee.

Can I drive and meet you at the dock?
Yes, this is an option if you prefer to drive and meet the boat at the Los Chiles dock. There is no reduction in the price if you do not take the free transportation from La Fortuna.
