When we went hiking at Cerro Chato, it was pouring rain (check out the video in the Cerro Chato post to see how rainy it was). And I mean it was a hardcore downpour, in the middle of a thunderstorm.
All of us got completely soaked: pants, shoes, socks, hair, underwear! However, at the end of the hike I noticed that my shirt and arms were quite dry.
The North Face has always been a popular and trusted brand in WA and the typical outfit of a University of Washington (where I attended) college student was rain boots or Uggs, jeans, a North Face rain jacket and an umbrella.
The North Face Venture Jacket Review
I knew that they have very good quality outdoor items so I researched one rain jacket in particular, the North Face Venture Jacket. I don’t know why I never got one in Seattle but for the rainy season in Costa Rica, it was essential to get a good quality rain jacket for when we do outdoor activities.
I noticed while hiking that the water droplets just stayed on top of the jacket, never absorbed through. I would give a good shake and it was like no water was ever there. I didn’t feel even feel damp and while everyone’s jackets and shirts were wet, I had stayed fairly dry.
If there was any real test I could do to check if a product was truly waterproof, this hike was it (besides putting it in the shower). I wore my day pack underneath my jacket and it barely even felt damp.
I was thoroughly amazed at how great this jacket was and even more for the price. I don’t recommend it as the sole outer layer for winter unless you have layers underneath. I didn’t get very hot on my hike and for tropical places where it is hot, humid and rains a lot, this is the perfect jacket.
- Very light
- Highly breathable
- Lots of cute colors
- Hood has the cinch cords to tighten
The not so good
- The bottom is not as fitted as I would like
I love this jacket and it’ll be my go to rain jacket from now on. It’s absolutely perfect for Costa Rica as it keeps you nice and fresh yet shields you from the heavy rains that come during rainy season. For colder climates, you can throw it on as a shell and stay completely dry!
They also have the North Face Venture jacket for men.
